Objective
B&Q, the UK’s largest DIY retailer, has always had a culture that thrives on face-to-face communication.
We were briefed with creating a new style briefing process and delivering fresh new content for team huddles. We called it ‘The Briefing Box’. This pack is delivered to stores monthly and contains vital activities for learning, in line with B&Q’s Trading Plan.
The Team Brief provides an opportunity for communicating key product and service messages, with the objective of engaging staff, prompting more sales and delivering better service.
Approach
What was called for was some exciting and interactive stimulus to get the training back on track. Some lateral thinking, or rather ‘thinking outside the box’ on our behalf came up with the solution.
We devised a unique programme, split into ‘bite-size’ performance sessions. These allowed team leaders to communicate learnings in a fun, enjoyable and memorable way. Above all, the communications were always interactive.
The boxes contained anything from board games to packs of product cards, or task sheets to knowledge questionnaires. All were designed to stimulate discussion and improve understanding.
The Briefing Box has proved to be a great success. The B&Q management team are delighted that their Trading Plan is now performing equally as well as all the staff.
Results "The Box was another example of the way nothing is too much trouble for Intermedia. It was a creative solution, which has led to increased employee engagement and in turn increased performance.”
