Craig joins Dan and Pete in the studio, fresh from uni and armed with a mind boggling grasp of all things techie.

Outside of work Craig enjoys running, walking, geocaching and employs an enthusiasm for print by designing various zines, newspapers and magazines in his spare time. Dedication eh?

Edwin Van Vlierberghe, the inspiring Plant Leader at Tower Automotive (a leading vehicle components supplier in Belgium) discussed the role of leadership, dialogue and creative approaches to restoring trust in a time of crisis and restructuring. Edwin instigated a change process based on high involvement, autonomous team working, recognising the diverse contributions of the 30 different nationalities who work within the organisation.

When Towers faced a period of crisis, the high trust culture enabled Edwin to work with union delegates to find ways of avoiding redundancy through the creation of new business activities. Workers at risk of redundancy were also provided with temporary placements in other companies while remaining as employees of Towers Automotive ‐ a strikingly proactive example of ethical employment practice.

All in all, very inspirational. All the theory, working well in practice.

As we’re developing our in-house photography section, we thought it might be nice to enter the Creative Review Annual Photography competition. We have some great concepts, and will be submitting our best to the Personal/Non-Published category.

The closing date is the 16th July. Fingers crossed!

Last week we had a great day with a possible partner. Their technology and our ideas might well combine to create something that’s never been done before.

In addition to supporting events by providing facilitation and content, we’re looking at adding some new technology (we’re talking more than just tablets) and delivering the day via a whole new vehicle. Watch this space.

Highlighted was the importance of developing a strategy, setting out goals, objectives, risks and benefits. Is the purpose to create awareness around your brand, draw attention to specific aspects of your business or drive action? Then comes the question of choosing the right social media platform – and it may not necessarily be a free one.

Social media is about gaining trust, making recommendations, and engaging with those who carry influence. It is not about traffic driving to your website. To make social media work successfully for your brand, you need to follow trends, find ways to tell more stories, tap into passions, and think episodic not blockbuster.

For example, Sony have just over 1,000 followers, which is relatively small for such a large brand. However Sony don’t use Twitter to gain popularity, they use it to tap into the influential tech crowd, who in-turn have large popularity amongst their followers.

There were many social media video agencies exhibiting their platforms at the World Forum. Interestingly, Most applications still focused on one genre – meetings, conferencing, tv, social media etc. Intermedia is currently developing a video social media platform (InTouch) which provides solutions for video conferencing and video messaging, combined with the ability to blog and save your videos to a user profile.
